TitlI am confident of UP BJAdvani Author: TIMES NEWS NETWORK Publication: Times of India DatAugust 19, 2001 UCKNOW: Union home minister L K Advani on Saturday patted the BJP workers for staying with the party through thick and thin and pursuing politics purely on moralistic grounds in spite of heavy odds. Addressing the partymen at the Saraswati Sishu Mandir, Nirala Nagar, Advani admitted that he was concerned at the affairs of the party barely six-eight months, before but now improvement was visible at every level. He said the BJP earned a niche for itself working tirelessly among the toiling masses without giving any thought to power and pelf. In course of his 40-minute speech, the home minister repeatedly attacked political parties for pursuing sectoral politics, keeping national interests at bay. He said he was stunned at the way projections were being made in the media about the poor electoral prospects of the BJP in the coming elections. The BJP was, he said, still far ahead of others and this would be conclusively proved at the time of the polls. In an obvious reference to the Congress and its dynastic style of politics, the home minister said that although the party had a number of competent and experienced leaders, none could be considered for the highest slot as long as the members of a particular family were available. Then without naming any one he said that there were parties which were governed by a family or a woman in Uttar Pradesh. These parties, he said, did not see much swing in their support bases because they played the politics of vote-bank. He said there was a time when people would call the BJP a party of Brahmins. But the party had proved it that it always stood for the nation and national interests, he said adding, that in the name of social justice, no one should be allowed to sow the seeds of mistrust in the society. He said on several occasions the BJP had risen above narrow interests, especially to safeguard the national interest and recalled how during the JP movement, the then Jan Sangh had joined the movement led by JP though it did not subscribe his views on Kashmir and social structures. Advani felt that in the coming days when the clashes of civilisation would gain a new height, Indian ethos would reign supreme, leaving Islamic and Christian thoughts much behind. On women's participation in governance, the home minister said that the party should be ready to give substantial number of representation to them irrespective of the consequences of the Bill seeking reservation for them in elected bodies. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.ofbjp.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A worldwide community of BJP's friends, supporters and activists: Friends of the BJP - Worldwid http://www.ofbjp.org/fob ----------------------------------------------------------------------
