The two-day special camp of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
Delhi at Jhinjholi, beginning Sept. 12, will be marked by
strict austerity and discipline, according to party sources.
BJP Delhi president Mange Ram Garg, who is personally
overseeing the arrangements for the camp, has placed a ban on
the participating BJP leaders from keeping cellular phones
with them. In addition, none of the leaders attending the
camp will be allowed to park his vehicle in the camp ground.
Instructions have been given that the leaders, after reaching
the Jhinjholi camp site should send back their vehicles. The
cars to fetch the leaders back will only be permitted to
enter the camp ground on Sept. 13 evening after the
deliberations end.
The Jhinjholi camp for the BJP Delhi ranks will be
inaugurated by Home Minister L. K. Advani and the closing
ceremony will be addressed by BJP president Khushabhau
Thakre. The party central leaders, who will address the
participants, include Venkaiah Naidu, Govindacharya, Dr Murli
Manohar Joshi and Narendra Modi.
The entire BJP Delhi's who's who will attend the meet. These
include Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma and his
Council of Ministers, the nine BJP MPs of Delhi-three from
the Rajya Sabha and six from the Lok Sabha, all party MLAs as
well as corporators. The Delhi BJP office-bearers, members of
the State executive, State council, district presidents and
general secretaries mandal presidents and BJP members of the
New Delhi Municipal Council and Delhi Cantonment will also
attend the meet.
In addition, other BJP ranks to participate in the meet are
morcha chiefs m the Delhi unit, president and district
presidents of the Aajeevan sabyogi samiti and the district
incharges of the voter lists.
Sources said that the near 350 to 400 persons participating
in the camp, irrespective of the status they enjoy in the
party, will reside together in three halls. The accommodation
arranged is dormitory like where all participants will sleep
on the floor. There will be no special arrangement for
anyone.
Interestingly, the BJP Delhi leaders have decided that the
Press will not be permitted to cover the Jhinjholi meet.
Earlier, when the party leaders had held their meet there,
the Press had also been invited to cover the meeting.
The Delhi BJP has decided not to serve sweets to the
participants. The breakfast will comprise tea or milk,
dhokla, bread, sprouted lentils and a banana on the first
day. On the second day iddlies will be served. The lunch fare
will comprise one vegetable, daal chapaati, rice and papad.
There will be no dessert. Tea will be accompanied by namkeen
and biscuits and the dinner menu will be similar to lunch. A
team of over a dozen cooks, taken specially from Delhi, will
be stationed at Jhinjholi during the meet.
Party ranks attending the meet will not be allowed to contact
anyone outside the meet venue during the two-day camp. The
meet will be a kind of reorientation gettogether of the Delhi
BJP on the party ideology and programmes as well as its
implementation. The occasion will also be used to discuss the
election strategy for the Delhi Assembly polls expected in a
little over two months.
This is the first time that such a camp is being held here
after over nine years.
