THE BJP on Tuesday snatched the right to grant the
certificate of correct political behaviour from its
`secular' rivals and branded the Congress as the nucleus of
communal politics in the country.
BJP spokesman M Venkaiah Naidu said that the Congress,
which is prompting the Muslim clergy and Christian outfits
to issue fatwa against the BJP, has once again demonstrated
that it is a party that practices communal politics.
``During the campaign, it shed crocodile tears for
Christians, At the end of the campaign, it shamelessly but
graciously accpted the directive of Jama Masjid's Shahi
Imam and the Milli Council to Muslims, asking them to vote
for the Congress. It is the same Congress that whose
leaders played a leading role in committing inhuman
atrocities on Muslims during Indira Gandhi's emergency,''
Mr Naidu alleged.
The BJP leader also accused the Congress president of
playing the minority card in Mizoram. ``The Congress, which
is scared to enter into a public debate on issues of
national importance. The Congress president has chosen
cheap communal propaganda against the BJP,'' Mr Naidu
charged.
The BJP's attack on the Sonia establishment comes close on
the heels of the promise of support from the Muslim bodies
in Delhi as well as the announcement of an action programme
against the BJP government at the Centre by Christian
organisation. Addressing a press conference in Delhi, a
Christian body has announced the decision to hold a
Parliament march on December 4 to protest against the
assault on minority-run institutions in the recent months.
At the routine briefing, BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu kept the
at- tack on the Congress and exhorted the electorate of the
pollbound states to ``vote convincingly against the
misdeeds, misgovernance an malignancy of the Congress''.
Accusing the Congress of pursuing a hidden agenda to topple
the Vajpayee government, Mr Naidu said that the nefarious
designs of the Congress should be exposed. ``The Congress
is a past-master in unleashing chaos, instability and tur-
moil. We have seen the Congress do this again and again,
every time it has been thrown out of power''. Mr Naidu said
that the Congress and the Left have ganged up to once again
engineer political instability and turmoil. ``This can be
averted by defeating the Congress in this election and
nipping the Congress-Communist mischief in the bud,'' Mr
Naidu said.
The BJP leader who claimed the credit for ``making a
strong, nuclear India; scandal-free administration and
rapid development'' said that the Congress' balance-sheet
only point to ruining India's economy, society and
polity.
